GAY AND LESBIAN HOTELS IN Maldives

The Maldives is a Muslim country under Sharia Law which penalizes same-sex relationships as well as any form of gender identity/expression. Penalties include whippings, house arrest, deportation, up to 6 years in jail or death. Vigilante attacks and executions have also been reported in the past.

USEFUL ADVICE FOR LGBTQ+ TOURISTS:

Fortunately, the majority of resorts in The Maldives are quite literally a world apart from the above, and are fairly safe for gay, lesbian and bisexual travelers. In fact, it is not unusual to see same-sex couples celebrating their honeymoon at the many private island resorts.

Nonetheless, it’s always best to use precautionary measures such as avoiding any public displays of affection. Transsexual travelers, however, are not advised to visit the country as any form of gender identity and/or expression is penalized by law.
