Right throughout the chunky modernist building, chairs and doors salvaged from the old property reappear as masterful artworks that prick guests’ senses. Thanks to interiors by Brazilian visionaries Humberto and Fernando Campana, who have earned a reputation for creating living art from cast-offs and spares, key elements of design and culture collide on every floor. From the spa and fitness area to the top-floor terrace, which affords one of the best views in Athens, the designs are consistently intense.

Each of the hotel’s 79 rooms and suites engages its guests by making them feel like they’re a part of the vivid in-room installations. There are three separate interior design concepts, each inspired by Greek culture, floating above the walls, challenging perceptions of depth and space. And in the public lounges, there are incredible tree-like sculptures crafted lovingly from a jumble of different-colored woods. Both physically and mentally, New Hotel provides endless possibilities for exploration. All the guestrooms from the 1st to the 6th floor enjoy natural day light and are completely soundproof. With their floor to ceiling windows, and solid bamboo floors and tables, they are faithful to the Campana exploration of space.

One bite is never enough! New Taste is a culinary haven, with its welcoming ambience, fabulous seating and simply excellent food. Enter the world of high design, with the Campana brothers showcasing their trademark approach at its very best. Inspired by their iconic Favela chair, ‘Favela’ columns are covered with intricately connected cut pieces of wooden furniture taken from the original hotel, at once forming a recycled artwork and paying their tribute to the past. ‘Tomato’ and ‘pixel’ chairs give a fresh breath of a deconstructed 21st century air while the emblematic golden bell-shaped lamps cast their extravagant glow.

A bar-restaurant serving morning buffet breakfast, lunch, and a la carte dinner, New Taste exalts the Mediterranean cuisine. The highly innovative menus, using local organic products and the finest and freshest produce, alternate from lunch sandwiches and salads to grills and Greek specialties to delicious dinner plates, always served with a smile. For those who cannot resist but are in a hurry to catch a plane or their next meeting, there are also take-away facilities. New Taste features an authentic Espresso Bar, serving the Napolitano Passalacqua coffee. Traditional breads and pastries baked daily are simply irresistible.

The New Hotel Athens is located 200 meters from Synatgma Constitution square -the most central part of Athens and a central point to the daily activities of all Athenians. It is an ideal location to get the best of Athens, from ancient to modern times. Take the mandatory steps up Dionysiou Areopagitou Street, whose cobble-stoned paths are revered by Athenians, and face the Acropolis, as it stands in all its splendor. Probably the most renowned citadel in the world, it is a testament to the artistic heights that ancient Greek civilization reached in the 5th century BC. More than 4.000 artifacts from the site have found their place in the spectacular New Acropolis Museum, an innovative structure of glass and concrete completed in 2007.

If you are searching for the city’s pulse, then walk to Syntagma Square, the most famous square in the whole of Greece. Named after the ‘Syntagma’- Constitution- that King Otto granted to the Greek people in 1843, it has remained a popular meeting place and center of social and political activity ever since.

Right across from the Square, the national flag flies on the Hellenic Parliament Building, a former Palace, with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier honouring the common memories of all soldiers killed in war.

The National Gardens, a green oasis within the city, offer a welcome break from the formality of some of the city’s most important buildings, including the Zappeion Megaron, the Maximou Palace, which is the official residence of the Prime Minister, the Foreign Ministry, and other public buildings.

Opposite, on the side of the Ardittos Hill, the Panathinaic Stadium held the first modern Olympic Games. Hadrian’s Arch and the ancient Temple of the Olympian Zeus testify to a rich historical legacy renowned the world over.

A spot of retail therapy can be easily managed either in the stylish cafe and boutique shopping district of Kolonaki or down the exclusive Stadiou and Voukourestiou streets.
